LHS, FHS eye D-11 playoffs

Liberty and Freedom have put themselves in position to qualify for the postseason heading down the stretch, but now they’ll need to close things out.

The Hurricanes (8-5, 7-4) and Patriots (7-7, 5-7) will both face the rigors of closing out the season with four matches to go, as EPC and district spots are on the line.

Liberty head coach Mary Kathryn Omdahl understands that there’s still work to be done now in the most crucial part of the season.

“We have been working on our small passing game, playing a full 60 minutes and ball possession,” said Omdahl about what her team needs to focus on moving forward. “We are focused on winning the tougher games when they come down to the wire.”

After winning four straight games, the ’Canes had their win streak snapped over the weekend following a 1-0 loss to Northampton.

With Easton (10-3), Dieruff (1-9) and Parkland (7-4-1) on tap this week, it’s an important stretch of games heading into next week’s final slate of regular season games.

“We need to win our remaining games to be in a good position for districts,” she said. “A tall order for such a young team, but we’ve lost only a few games that we dominated.”

Freedom lost to Liberty 2-0 last week and then faced a struggle on Monday during a 6-1 defeat to Easton.

The Patriots still have Dieruff and Bethlehem Catholic (2-10-1) this week to pick up some much needed wins, as if they can close out with wins in both contests, Freedom will qualify for districts.

The Pates entered the week in eighth place overall for the EPC playoffs, while Liberty was sixth.
