BASD: Inservice day Oct. 12

Bethlehem Area School District schools will be closed on Oct. 12 for in a teacher service day.

BASD: District observes Education Week

This week is BASD education week. Special events will be held as follows: Oct. 13 through 16: Hanover ES book fairs; Oct. 13: Asa Packer ES book fair; Oct. 14: Tiger Trek fundraiser, Farmersville ES; Oct. 15: author day, Miller Heights ES, and Barnes and Noble, Clearview ES; Oct. 16: grandparents day, Gov. Wolf ES; Oct. 21 and 22: Fall scholastic book fair, Farmersville ES; Oct. 23: Fall scholastic book fair and family night, Farmersville ES; Fall fest, Miller Heights ES; Oct. 24: Harvest night, Clearview ES.

BASD: BEAF gets 2 grants

The Bethlehem Education Association Foundation has been awarded two grants that will foster increased community involvement and enhance student experiences.

Laurie Hackett, Air Products community relations and philanthropy manager, presented at 14 thousand dollar grant, and Imagevolution donated 10 thousand dollar grant to the BEAF at the Bethlehem Area School District’s Sept. 28 board meeting.

BAEF executive director Judy Bailey announced the 2015-16 teacher innovation grant winners, distributing nearly 11 thousand dollars to teachers in the district.

BASD: MIddle school activities

Nitschmann MS will hold their annual alumni day on Oct. 14.

Broughal MS will hold a Lights On After School program on Oct. 22.

PBS39: STEM project applications due Oct. 30

Through the Empowering Educators program, teachers will have the opportunity to provide hands-on learning to students in grades six to eight.

Teams of students will bring life to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) projects in the community.

PBS39 will select six winning teams, with each receiving a $1,000 prize to make their project a reality.

Applications are due by Oct. 30. The teams will celebrate their completed projects during a ceremony at the local PBS station in May 2016.

Miller Heights: Howards visit school

Phillies All Star, MVP and world series winner Ryan Howard and his wife Krystal visited Miller Heights E.S. in support of their Big Piece children’s literacy foundation. The couple spoke about their new Little Rhino series and what it will mean to the to the readers.
