South Whitehall commissioners, at their Sept. 16 meeting, accepted the recommendation of Deputy Police Chief John Christman to suspend Officer Stacey Surdan for one day without pay.
The suspension was for violation of official duties, inefficiency, neglect, intemperance, disobedience of orders, and or conduct unbecoming an officer.
In addition, Christman told the board the police department is going through big transitions with training, promotions, working toward accreditation and the forthcoming retirement of Chief Thomas Toth.
Christman said the K-9 police dog, Cirrus, recently found an individual with Alzheimer’s who wandered into a wooded area.
“He’s not a good public relations dog, but he’s a good police dog,” Christman said.
