Grants applications
EMPOWERING
EDUCATORS
Television stations PBS39 and WVIA are giving local educators the power to make a difference with the Empowering Educators Program, sponsored by PPL Corporation.
The program is designed to help teachers provide hands-on learning by bringing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to life in the community.
Empowering Educators will feature teacher-led student teams who will identify STEM-related needs in their communities.
Each team will implement a project that will have a positive impact on its selected need.
To participate, each school must submit a contest application to its local station that includes a project narrative of 500 words or less describing the problem, the steps that will be taken to address the problem and an implementation timeline.
PPL will award $12,000 in Empowering Educators grants.
PBS39 and WVIA will select six winning teams apiece, for a total of 12.
Each winning team will be awarded $1,000 during a ceremony at its local station in early November.
The money is to be used to bring projects to fruition.
Each team will be judged on its project proposal, its community need and potential overall impact.
Teams will celebrate completed projects during a ceremony at their local station in May 2016.
Students will be required to prepare a 2- to 3-minute presentation for the ceremony that will address the experience and the impact their project had on the community.
Video presentations are encouraged.
The contest application process will be open until Oct. 30 at both stations.
Each project must be completed by April 15, 2016.
A final report must be submitted to the applicant’s local station describing the outcomes of each project by May 6, 2016.
