Book, bake sale this weekend

Coplay Public Library will hold a three-day book and bake sale beginning today, Thursday, with an early-bird book sale, 4-7 p.m., for a $5 fee. The library is located at 49 S. Fifth St. There will be a large number of books, including fiction, history, children’s, biographical, novels and other genres.

The book and bake sale continues Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

An all-you-can-eat dinner of spaghetti with meatballs, salad, garlic bread and dessert will be held 4-7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, at Commitment to Family & Community (CFC) at its quarters, the former fire company hall, 165 Cherry St.

The event, hosted by Forgotten Felines & Fidos Inc, Germansville, benefits homeless pets. The nonprofit organization has been serving the region since 1994.

Coplay Fire Department is observing October as Fire Prevention Month with several activities, including bringing in several fire companies and their trucks to the community’s Halloween parade Oct. 20. Sponsored by Coplay Recreation & Welfare Association, the fire department also holds an open house and a spookhouse for kids on Halloween Eve.

Awards for Coplay’s Properties of Merit will soon be given to those whose houses and outdoors reflect distinguishable displays. Residents had an opportunity to vote for the residences, in various categories, where Properties of Merit signs graced yards. A dinner and reception will be announced shortly.

The borough’s public works crews will be collecting leaves during their Friday yard waste pickups. Leaves are to be bagged, not swept or blown onto streets or alleys. The collection of leaves will continue through November.
