Betty E. Kern, 90, of Schnecksville, died Sept. 28, 2015, in Fellowship Community, Whitehall. She was the wife of the late Sherwood W. Kern.

Born Sept. 30, 1924, in Schnecksville, she was the daughter of the late Dewey C. and Helen M. (Krause) Wotring.

Employed at The Neffs National Bank first as a bookkeeper, she was then promoted to cashier and secretary to the board of directors for 37 years before retiring in 1984.

She belonged to the National Association of Bank Women serving as chairperson of the Anthracite Group for one term.

Active in the life of her church, she was a member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, where she was a former Sunday School teacher, choir member, consistory person, auditor and Helping Hands member.

She was a former auditor of North Whitehall Township, a charter member and former treasurer of Lady Lilly Best Rebekah Lodge 222, Schnecksville, member and former treasurer of the Slatington Chapter of the Eastern Star 458, member of the Schnecksville Grange 1684, and the Neffs 4-H, and former member of the Women’s Club of Slatington.

Her survivors include nieces and nephews Terry L. Wotring of Plainville, Conn., Blaine C. Wotring of Derry, N.H., Richard W. Long of Shoemakersville and Linda S. Foulke of Kempton.

She was predeceased by a son Ronald S. Kern, brother Lee C. Wotring, and sisters, Lois E. Long and Jean K. Wotring.

Her funeral services will be 11 a.m. Oct. 2, at Union UCC, 5550 Route 873, Neffs with the Rev. Dr. Patience D. Stevenson and the Rev. Dr. James T. Gottwald officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 1, at Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Oct. 2.

Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs.
