George E. MacBride

George E. MacBride, 78, from Schnecksville, died on Sept. 16, 2015, in Fellowship Manor, Whitehall.

He and his wife M. Margot (Mammele) MacBride were married 50 years on May 9.

Born Aug. 3, 1937, in Lansdowne, he was the son of the late William J. and Elsie C. (Butow) MacBride.

He earned a Master’s degree in chemical engineering from Lehigh University.

He was a chemical engineer at the former Western Electric, Allentown, before becoming an assistant professor of chemistry at Lehigh Carbon Community College, Schnecksville.

He later taught chemistry and physics at Salem Christian School, Macungie.

A member of New Covenant Christian Community, Bethlehem, he loved to play chess and listen to classical music, but nothing surpassed the abiding love he shared with his wife.

He honored God with his entire life and was deeply devoted to his wife and children.

A friend to many, he welcomed strangers into his home and made them part of his family.

He was gentle in spirit, quick to listen, slow to speak, and full of wisdom and discernment.

Many students and couples benefited from his counsel and his gift of teaching.

A generous and compassionate man, he often secretly met the financial needs of others.

From birth his life was made difficult by a variety of health problems, but he suffered quietly and did not make others pay for his pain.

Though we will sorely miss him, we rejoice he is free at last, home with the Lord.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by children Andrew of Santa Monica, Calif., Daniel of Palm and Elisabeth of Schnecksville; and grandchildren Koenrad, Emily, Daniel, Geoffrey and Katheryn.

His memorial service will take place 10:30 a.m. Sept. 26, at New Covenant Christian Community Church, 21 E. Broad St., Bethlehem.

Calling hours are 9:30-10:30 a.m. Pastors Jack Groblewski and Bob Rentler will officiate. Expressions of sympathy for the family may be recorded at heintzelmancares.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Mountain Christian Retreat c/o the funeral home, P.O. Box 196, Schnecksville, PA 18078-0196.

Arrangements were made by Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., Schnecksville.
