FHS battling back
Freedom’s field hockey team has hunkered down and gotten results over the past week to bring themselves back near the .500 mark.
The Patriots have won three out of their last five games following Monday’s 5-1 defeat to Easton.
The loss puts the Pates at 4-5 overall on the season and head coach Charis Innarella knows that winning can be a contagious theme.
“It continues to be an enjoyable season,” Innarella said. “We have a great group of kids on both teams and our skills are improving with each game. The overtime win against Pleasant Valley was a huge boost to our confidence.”
Freedom took down the Bears 2-1 last week, as Maddi Donatelli scored both goals for the Pates to register the win. Freedom also defeated Pocono Mountain West 3-1 last week, but fell to East Stroudsburg South 4-0.
“Our goal is in sight and our players know the way to achieve is to persevere together with hustle heart and pride,” Innarella said. “I have much confidence that together we will live up to our motto of ‘Don’t limit your challenge.’”
With games against Dieruff and Salisbury this week, Freedom will continue to stay in the mix for the district playoffs.
Liberty (4-2) took care of most of their business last week against their northern counterparts in the East Penn Conference, beating Pocono Mountain East 3-0 and crushing East Stroudsburg North 12-0, but the one blemish from last week was a 2-0 shutout to highly-touted Stroudsburg. Liberty continues this week against Moravian, Easton and Dieruff.
Bethlehem Catholic (1-6-1) got their first point of the season when they settled for a 1-1 draw with Pocono Mountain East last week.
Madison Ensley scored the first goal of the season for Becahi in that contest.
The Hawks registered their first win of the year on Monday against Dieruff, knocking off the Huskies 2-1.
