Bethlehem Catholic High School’s girls’ tennis team improved their season record to 10-0 by defeating city rival, Freedom, on Monday by a score of 7-0.
Brenna Magliochetti defeated Natalie Sinai 6-2, 6-4 at number one singles, Molly Ehrig won in three sets against Kaitlyn Swint 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 at number two singles, and at number three singles, Brooke Adams defeated Becky Packo 7-5, 6-2.
Regarding the number two singles match, Ehrig said, “I didn’t feel like I was playing like myself [in the first set]. I wasn’t making aggressive shots. She was more consistent [in the first set], and running to things, and getting the ball back.”
In doubles play, Maureen Mazza and Tess Shuler defeated Madison McTier and Meghan Smith 6-1, 6-4.
Mazza played with a wrist injury in the second set.
“It popped when I was serving,” she said.
Mazza carried on despite the pain.
“Towards the end, I was just thinking I have to do this for Maureen,” said Shuler, who tried to end the match as quickly as possible when McTier and Smith threatened a comeback in the second set.
“They became more focused. They got into the swing of things,” Shuler said.
At number three doubles, Gabby Duffy and Tori Evert won their match against Rachel Loh and Alexa Diaz 6-3, 6-3, and at number four doubles, Allie Palmisano and Bailee Deshler defeated Gabriella Greenhoward and Anjoli Chhugani 6-0, 6-2.
Liah Perez and Julie Glemser won their match for the Hawks at number one doubles 8-1.
