A look back at Week 2

DISTRICT 11 NOTES

WEEK 2

Running backs

• Antwon Keenan of Bethlehem Catholic rushed for 176 yards and a school record tying five TDs in their win over Pleasant Valley. Keenan became the sixth Golden Hawk to score five TDs in a game.

• Evan Culver of Saucon Valley rushed for 221 yards and three TDs in their win over Northern Lehigh. Teammate Zach Thatcher rushed for 184 yards and a TD.

• Mike Stasko of Palmerton rushed for 166 yards and three TDs to take over the District 11 lead with 414 yards through Week 2. Stasko has scored six TDs on the season, one behind District 11 leader Kyle Boney of Emmaus.

• Jamaal Brome of Stroudsburg also rushed for 166 yards and three more TDs in their win over PMW. Brome had 402 yards rushing and six TDs through the first two weeks.

• Nasir Minney-Gratz of Easton rushed for 202 yards and three TDs in their win over Emmaus and also has six TDs on the season through two weeks.

• Bud Moyer of Tamaqua rushed for 208 yards and a school record tying five TDs in their win over Schuylkill Valley. The other two players from Tamaqua to score five TDs in a game were Jim Hope in 1990 vs. Minersville and Dalton Nunemacher in 2012 vs. Allen.

• Devin Irwin of Salisbury scored four TDs vs. Palisades last week. Irwin carried the ball three times for 71 yards and a TD, caught three passes for 39 yards (two TDs), and returned a kickoff 98 yards for another TD. Irwin also had an interception on defense and returned a punt 28 yards.

• Roberto Diez of Freedom rushed for 170 yards and three TDs vs. Nazareth.

• Northwestern’s Harry Hall joins the 40 TD club with 40 exactly.

Quarterbacks

• Southern Lehigh’s Blake Levengood threw three TDs in Week 2 and led District 11 through two weeks with seven TDs.

• Doug Erney of Liberty threw three TDs for the second week in a row in their win over Allen. Erney went over 5,000 yards (5,039) for his career and inches closer to Dan Persa’s school record of 5,875.

• Julian Spigner of Bethlehem Catholic and Erney both have thrown 50 TD passes in their careers.

• Devante Cross of Parkland threw for 219 yards and four TDs in the first half in their win over Northampton. Cross joins the 40 TD club and now has 43 career TD passes.

• Tevon Weber of Salisbury threw four TDs in their win over Palisades and now has 31 for his career. Weber also went over 3,000 yards passing in his career (3,067).

• Travis Stefanik of Nazareth threw for over 200 yards again with his 270 and two TDs in their loss to Freedom.

• Tre Jordan of Notre Dame threw for 285 yards and three TDs in their win over Catasauqua. Jordan needed 29 more yards to reach 5,000 for his career heading into Week 3.

Receivers

• Nick Basenese of Notre Dame caught five passes for 139 yards and a TD in their win over Catasauqua. Basenese had 14 catches this year and is one behind District 11 leader Julian Liaci of Nazareth through Week 2.

Kenny Yeboah of Parkland caught 10 passes for 119 yards and two TDs Week 2.

Aaron Deangelo of Marian Catholic caught seven passes for a school record 229 yards and three TDs. Scott Holloman held the old record when he set school records of 9 catches for 185 yards in a district playoff win over Catasauqua in 1996. Deangelo had only eight catches for 219 yards and three TDs for the entire 2014 season.

• Ethan Price of Southern Lehigh went over 1,000 yards receiving in his career (1,054) in Week 2.

Others

In Week 1, Alkiohn Dunkins of Freedom returned two interceptions for TDs, totaling 176 yards against ESS.

Also in Week 1, Palmerton’s Toby Sander returned back to back kickoffs (88 and 80 yards) to start the game against Wilson. Sandwiched between Sander’s two returns was Wilson’s Nick Maston returning a kickoff back 81 yards for a TD.

In Week 2, Jim Thorpe’s freshman, Jarrin Geisinger returned back-to-back kickoffs for TDs (85 and 75 yards).
