For 11 years, Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley has run its West Ward Neighborhood Partnership in Easton, providing millions of dollars in support to the area. But budgetary issues and dearth of resources recently nearly shuttered the program.
CACLV announced Sept. 16 new donors have stepped up to keep the mission alive.
Board President Olga Negron said in the statement, “As an organization deeply committed to economic opportunity, strong neighborhoods and resident participation in the problem-solving process, we have been agonizing over finding the way to not abandon Easton. Thanks to some really good people, that has been avoided.”
Lehigh Valley Community Foundation and the Two Rivers Health and Wellness Foundation stepped up, said Negron, and Mayor Sal Panto has committed to doubling the city’s support. This assistance will keep West Ward efforts going through the fiscal year until the end of next June.
The West Ward Neighborhood Partnership has helped with public tree and garden planting, housing repair and weatherization, sidewalk repair, teen center funding and in many other ways.
