Youngsters take home awards from 4-H Round-Up
Lehigh County 4-H Livestock Round-Up and Sale took place at the 2015 Allentown Fair.
4-H members competed throughout the fair week to earn honors with their animals as “the champion” and then sold their 4-H market project at the end of the week.
The 4-H members sold 35 market animals bringing in more than $37,000.
Champion and Reserve Champion market lambs, shown by Christine Lambert of Alburtis, were purchased by Fulton Bank and Haas Farm respectively, for an average $2.67 a pound.
The market hogs averaged $1.70 a pound.
Orefield resident Ashley Haas’ grand champion was purchased by Hartman’s Butcher Shop, New Tripoli.
The Reserve Champion, owned by Riley Nyce, was purchased by Springfield Meats.
The grand champion market steer, raised by Tori Schiffert of New Tripoli, was sold to Four Springs Farm.
Susquehanna Bank won the bid for New Tripoli resident Adam Dietrich’s Reserve Champion market steer.
The steers averaged $1.87 a pound.
The Grand Champion dairy beef, shown by Joshua Dietrich of New Tripoli, was sold to Hills Wildlife Taxidermy, Lehighton.
A trio of businesses, including Ag Accounting Services, Rauch’s Service Center and Geiger Family Farm, won the bid for the reserve champion dairy beef shown by Jonas Geiger of North Whitehall.
The dairy beef animals averaged $1.94 a pound.
North Whitehall resident Olivia Geiger’s bred and owned champion and reserve champion market goats were both purchased by Victor Smith.
The average price for the market goats was $3.60 a pound.
The Lehigh County 4-H Round-Up Showmanship Competition was a contest of many siblings challenging each other for the top honors.
Grand Champion Market Steer Showman was Adam Dietrich while Sarah Smith was Reserve Champion.
A pair of siblings shared dairy beef showmanship honors with Olivia Geiger as Champion and Jonas Geiger as Reserve Champion.
Another pair of siblings, from Orefield, claimed market swine showmanship recognition with Ashley Haas as Champion and Ryan Haas as Reserve champion.
The Champion Showman for market goats was Olivia Geiger and Adam Dietrich was the Reserve Champion.
Christine Lambert, of Alburtis, earned her distinction as the market lamb champion showman.
The Lehigh County Livestock 4-H members appreciate the support of all of the buyers.
