Hellertown police officer terminated after DUI crash

A Hellertown Borough police officer charged with drunken driving has been fired.

At the Sept. 8 meeting, council voted to terminated Tim Piotrowski of Upper Milford Township. Piotrowski, 51, has been charged with drunken driving, disregarding a traffic lane, careless driving and first-offense drunken driving. The incident occurred Aug. 13 in Upper Milford Township.

According to Pennsylvania State Police in Fogelsville, Piotrowski had a blood alcohol level of 0.22, which is nearly three times the legal limit in the state.

Court records indicate on Aug. 13 around 12:30 a.m. Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched to a motorcycle crash at Ridge Road and Woodlawn Drive in Upper Milford.

State police at the scene said they found a motorcycle, registered to Piotrowski, on its side on the left shoulder of Woodlawn Drive. Piotrowski was sitting next to the motorcycle, court records said.

Court records further indicate as Piotrowksi was driving south on Ridge Road, he failed to make the left turn onto Woodlawn Drive, resulting in the motorcycle falling on its side and sliding.
