Parking issues discussed
Carol Olsen and Dan Casey of Baseball Info Solutions, Inc. (BIS) presented how their organization benefits young people during the July Coplay Town Watch meeting.
BIS is a data collection company that collects Major League Baseball information from televised baseball games.
It then sells the data to Major League Baseball teams. It offers opportunities for young people, recent college graduates and college students as employees and paid interns to break into the baseball industry.
It has been housed in the old Ritz Theater on South Second Street since 2008.
Young people from Michigan, California, Illinois, Maryland and other states have expressed their interest to come to Coplay hoping to make it in the Major League Baseball business.
Olsen and Casey reported they had a young man from Hawaii work as a paid intern.
With as many as 50 employees there, the young workers and interns regularly shop at The Bacon Strip, Giant, Milander’s and Coplay News Agency.
Success comes with a price, however. Their successful business has created parking issues in the Second to Fourth and Center streets areas.
Some residents in that area are discontent with the increased parking pressure. The Coplay Town Watch Neighborhood Crime Watch Committee (NCWC), which is the crime watch committee of the CTW, has been actively working with the neighborhood and BIS to minimize the parking issues. The NCWC has had some success in trying to address the parking issues.
Their efforts to amicably deal with the issues are ongoing.
A discussion regarding the rash of burglaries in Coplay and Northampton also took place.
Vice President Kevin Keppel urged members present to install motion lights, consider the installation of cameras on their property and always lock cars if parking on the street.
Members present were urged to call Coplay police if they see anything or anyone suspicious. The group was told to never confront a suspicious person.
