Western Salisbury Fire Department will host its annual community day 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 12 at Green Acres Park. The event will feature games, face painting and a bounce house. Balloons the Clown will be on hand and free refreshments will be available. The fire department will also be training visitors on the proper use of fire extinguishers and collecting canned goods for a local food bank.

Welcome back to school, everyone! I hope you are all getting back in the swing of things just in time to have a nice long weekend. All Salisbury township schools are closed Sept. 4 and 7 for Labor Day.

Salisbury High School is getting started right away with picture day Sept. 9.

Salisbury Middle School will host an open house 6:45 p.m. Sept. 10 and picture day Sept. 15.

Western Salisbury Elementary School will hold an open house for kindergarten, first, second grades and Kathy DeBona’s fifth grade class 7 p.m. Sept. 15. An open house for third and fourth grades and Christopher Adams’s fifth grade class will be 7 p.m. Sept. 17.

The SHS boys and girls soccer teams are selling spirit cards. The card works like a coupon to use over and over all year long at 19 participating businesses including: Dominoes, Dunkin Donuts, Dino’s, Schuylkill Valley Sports, Pita Pit and Louie’s. The SHS girls soccer team will host a flapjack breakfast 8 to 10 a.m. Sept. 27 at Applebee’s, 1510 N. Cedar Crest Blvd.

If pancakes are not your thing, you can head over to the high school stadium for the 2015 Lehigh Valley K9 Trials 9 a.m. Sept 27. Sponsored by the Salisbury Township Police Officers Association, this fun exhibition of the talents of our canine officers will raise money this year for a scholarship fund being created to support police officers, their families and canine partners.

An operations committee meeting will be held 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at Salisbury Middle School.

A school board meeting will be held 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the administration building.

Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church will hold a community breakfast 8 to 11 a.m. Sept. 12. A donation is suggested. All proceeds benefit the 275th Anniversary Celebration at the church.

The Devonshire yard waste drop-off site will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 5 and 15 .

All township offices will be closed Sept. 7 in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Salisbury Township will have curbside branch collection Sept. 14-18. The branches need to either be bundled or in an open container.
