LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

LV wins Jr. Division

The Lehigh Valley baseball contingent at the Keystone State games proved to have another successful tournament this summer, as the Junior Division team took home the gold medal in this year’s tournament.

Lehigh Valley earned the championship with a 16-8, extra-inning victory over Delaware Valley last month to claim this year’s title.

AJ Palumbo and Adam Smith, a pair of Parkland pitchers, led the LVL squad through 12-innings on the mound. After Delaware Valley tied the game at 8-8 in the seventh inning, the teams went to the 12th inning all tied up before the Lehigh Valley erupted with eight runs in the frame to seal the victory.

Lehigh Valley defeated West 5-4 in the semifinal round, jumping out with five runs in the first three innings to advance to the final. Freedom’s Tim Healy drove in all five runs and pitched 6 1/3 innings for the win. The win to advance proved to be a dose of battling back after the team lost to Blue Mountain 6-5 earlier in the day.

Lehigh Valley also defeated Nittany 10-4 and Metro 7-0 early in the tournament to set the tone for their championship run.

Notable players for the team included: Emmett McCauley (Stroudsburg), Brittain Shander (Northampton), Joshua Lee (Parkland), Royce Frazier (Notre Dame/ES.), Adam Mellinger (Parkland), Benny Pembleton (Stroudsburg), Evan Marushak (Emmaus), Ryan Diehl (Liberty), Joey Galantini (Salisbury), Seth Laky (Northampton) and George Jenkins (Parkland).
