LV successful in field hockey
The Lehigh Valley had six teams play in the Keystone State Games Field Hockey Tournament recently. The local teams came away with five medals, including three bronze, two silver and a gold medal. Teams were divided into two divisions, based on how advanced the players on those teams were. The Keystone Division had the more advanced teams, leaving the others to compete in the Commonwealth Division.
The Keystone Division scholastic team, coached by Emmaus head coach Sue Butz-Stavin, came home with a gold medal. The team roster had eight players from the Emmaus High School team – Delaney Ahn, Alicia Cooperman, Madalyn Dorn, Paige Garloff, Kira Koehler, Hannah Maron, Meredith Sholder and Morgan Tietz – on the roster. The team also consisted of players from Easton, Liberty, Parkland, Pleasant Valley, Stroudsburg and Whitehall.
The scholastic team finished 4-0-1 and beat a team from the Pocono Region 2-1 to capture the gold medal. Sholder was named the Most Valuable Player in the Scholastic Division.
The Keystone junior team, made up of players in ninth and tenth grades, came home with a silver medal.
Players in eighth grade or younger comprised the youth team, and the Lehigh Valley youth team in the Keystone Division finished with a bronze medal.
In the Commonwealth Division, the junior team brought home silver medals, while the scholastic team and the youth team won bronze medals in the competition.
Teams from six regions in Pennsylvania competed in each division, with games being played from July 31 through August 2.
