The Coplay Fire Department will have a coin toss at Second and Chestnut streets 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5.

The Coplay Cement Manufacturing Company will once again join other cement companies in the region in prominence, as its iconic name has become a permanent fixture of the new Northampton Area Middle School.

A Coplay Cement Hall is part of the middle school. Sixteen other halls have been named after cement companies, including the former Atlas Universal Cement Company in Northampton, Dragon, Essroc, Keystone and Hercules.

There is virtually little reminder of Coplay Cement, since the historic cement kilns at the first plant were named Saylor Kilns after its founder, David Saylor, and the ballfield at the parkway was given to the borough by Coplay Cement is named Saylor Field.

Minsi Trail Boy Scout Council will be at the borough’s Parkway Pool this Saturday, Aug. 29 during the Community Days celebration to provide information to youths and parents about the Scouting program.
