Richard S. Whited

Richard S. Whited, 81, of Hellertown, died Aug. 14, 2015, at St. Luke’s VNA Hospice, Bethlehem. Born in Somerville, N.J., he was a son of the late James Whited and Grace (Edmonds) MacCombie. He was the husband of the late Shirley A. (Derrico) Whited.

He was a graduate of Lehigh University.

He was in the U.S. Army during peacetime.

He was a bricklayer/foreman for C.B. Haney Inc., Bethlehem; and for Vobuco Inc., Alpha, N.J., for 42 years.

He was a former treasurer of Pleasant Hill Cemetery Association, a member of Springfield Township Historical Society, and a past president of Springfield Township Lions Club.

He was a member, from 1977 to 1983, of the Palisades School Board.

He is survived by two children, Jess and his wife Laura of North Yarmouth, Maine, and Lynn and her husband Thomas Gruber of Marshall, Mich.; four grandchildren: Eric, Matthew, James and Emma; a companion, Sallie Woodring of Nazareth; and a former wife, Ursula S. (Bernstein) of Hellertown.

He was predeceased by a brother, Clarence MacCombie.
