Motorists driving on roads in Whitehall Township's southern sector and the Route 22/Lehigh Valley Thruway may need more time to arrive at their destination beginning Sept. 8 due to road widening, particularly during commuter hours.
Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. reported at the board of commissioners meeting Aug. 10 that the road widening and the bridge construction in the Fullerton area will most likely impact traffic for four years.
Hozza also said he was at the District 5 Pennsylvania Department of Transportation offices in Allentown when Wagman Construction, of York County, was awarded a $64,692,921 contract for the major road construction work.
That event was attended by 100 persons.
Hozza noted the expansive project, formally named the "PennDOT Fullerton Avenue and SR22 Section 400 Lehigh River Bridge Project," involved state and federal funding.
Specific detour signs will soon be placed on Fullerton Avenue and other roads that will be impacted.
Further information on detours and the construction timetable will be forthcoming.
