William Wenz Binder

William Wenz Binder, 67, of Coopersburg, died August 6, 2015, while swimming at Rodale Aquatic Center, Cedar Crest College, Allentown.

Born Nov. 29, 1947, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Paul and Esther (Wenz) Binder.

He would have celebrated his 42nd wedding anniversary to his wife, Arabella, this December.

After graduating from William Allen High School, Allentown, in 1965, he studied finance at Norman Park and graduated from Valdosta State University, Georgia.

He then entered his family business as secretary of the Wenz Company, Allentown, where he sold monuments and mausoleums for more than 35 years, before retiring in 2007.

Also, he and his wife ran Binder Apartments.

He was an avid scuba diver and swimmer, swimming at Muhlenberg College and the Rodale Aquatic Center for more than 20 years.

He loved to travel, enjoyed cruises and fishing. Later this month, he was planning a deep sea fishing trip with his family.

Along with being a member of the Lehigh County Historical Society and a history buff, he enjoyed attending reenactments, listening to historical lectures and reading historical nonfiction.

He was a lifetime member of Lehigh Valley Active Life Center, Allentown, where he took weekly exercise and history classes.

Fond of spending time with his family and friends, he tried to take a family trip once a year.

He loved going out for dinner and dancing.

A member of Christ Lutheran Church, Allentown, he served on the church's property committee for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Christina Sayre and her husband Oliver "Jay" of North Catasauqua; grandchildren Miranda, Kayla, Alden and Savanna, all of North Catasauqua; sisters Kay, wife of Joseph Berghold, of Lodi, Calif., and Sandra, wife of Joseph Stanton, of Breinigsville; brothers Earl, husband of Amy, and Paul Jr., husband of Sharon, of Breinigsville; niece Lori, wife of Michael Csencsitz, of Bethlehem, and many nieces and nephews.

His memorial service will be 1 p.m. Aug. 13, at Trexler Funeral Home, 1625 W. Highland St., Allentown, PA.

Calling will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
