Whitehall Township has not had issues of private individuals or companies involved in campaign contributions to obtain township contracts, now the focus of an FBI probe into the City of Allentown's awarding of contracts.
And Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. took steps Monday night to ensure "Pay to Play" doesn't happen in the township.
"This evening, I am asking that the township ethics board review and make recommendations regarding our current home rule charter, administrative code and ethics code to address the issue of campaign finance and the prohibition of what is now known to be 'Pay to Play,'" Hozza said.
The commissioners did not have to vote on Hozza's report since it is an administrative function.
The mayor informed the commissioners that when the review and recommendations are completed, they will be brought before the board and its legal and legislative committee.
There was no timetable established for the ethics board's review.
In other business, Hozza said major road reconstruction projects have been completed for 2015. He added that microsealing in the Oakwood neighborhood will be done shortly.
Camp Whitehall, a day camp for youngsters, ends tomorrow, Aug. 14.
