Lack of bids could delay fire truck vote

The Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners may not vote next week for a new West Catasauqua fire truck because the companies hoping to manufacture the vehicle have yet to submit their prices.

"No numbers, no vote," said board of commissioners President Linda Snyder at the commissioners workshop meeting Aug. 3.

The proposed legislation authorizing the acceptance of bid proposals for the fire truck has not yet been removed from the board agenda for the Aug. 10 meeting, however.

Donald Dreisbach, representing the fire company, said he has encouraged prospective vendors that have shown interest in bidding to submit their costs, saying to them, "Get your prices in; our ship is sailing without you."

Two of the venders that have shown interest in securing the contract are from Pennsylvania.

Dreisbach said he already has one bid from a possible vendor.

"We need numbers," Snyder reminded him.

The commissioners have already approved the fire company's request to seek a loan from its fire relief organization to construct an addition to its station to house the new fire truck.
