Chick-fil-A was granted a variance by the Whitehall Township Zoning Hearing Board at a June 16 hearing.

A freestanding eatery will be built at 2610 MacArthur Road. The zoning board's decision allows for demolition of the existing structure at that location, a former Chinese restaurant and, much earlier, Don Pablo's, a Mexican restaurant.

The five-member zoning panel heard testimony from representatives of the Atlanta, Ga.-based company before rendering its ruling.

Testimony centered on the company's appeal regarding a township ordinance regulating front yard setbacks and loading zone requirements. The land is located in a C2 commercial zone.
