Rehab Center to open July 1

The Center for Inpatient Rehabilitation-Cedar Crest, Lehigh Valley Health Network's new inpatient rehabilitation facility for adults 18 years and older, will open on July 1 on the sixth and seventh floors of the Kasych Family Pavilion South Tower, Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest, Allentown.

LVHN adult patient will be able to receive short-term rehabilitation without having to leave Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest.

The center will have 34 private patient rooms, a therapy gym on each floor, and state-of-the-art technical equipment; a d a separate kitchen and activities-of-daily-living suite for patients to test their ability to live independently prior to discharge.

Endowed chair in cancer given auxiliary donation

The Auxiliary of Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest, has presented, on June 24, a check for $475,000 to the health network toward the establishment of The Auxiliary of Lehigh Valley Hospital Endowed Chair in Cancer at its annual luncheon. The executive board of the auxiliary voted in June 2012 to fund the chair in cancer, pledging the required two million dollars.

These funds are realized through sales at the three gift shops at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest as well as fundraising events throughout the year. This year's check is the largest ever installment toward completion of the pledge.

Suresh G. Nair, MD, medical director of LVHN cancer services, will be the holder of the chair.

ST. LUKE'S UNIVERSITY HEALTH NETWORK

Breast screening updated

St. Luke's University Health Network has aligned advanced breast screening technologies together with St. Luke's Individualized Breast Screening Program, to provide a fast, dependable diagnosis and reduce the amount of unnecessary return visits and biopsies.

The West End Medical Center, Allentown, has the region's lowest dose 3D mammography system, GE's SenoClaire breast tomosynthesis, and the new SensorySuite.

St. Luke's also tailors breast screening for each woman, applying the most comprehensive risk assessment tool available today, the Tyrer-Cuzick model. St. Luke's Regional Breast Center has been designated a Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology.
