Wanderers making NORCO Legion playoff push
Dwight Pulieri doesn't want anymore rain.
The Wanderers manager hopes the final week of the regular season goes on without any interruption in play as the NORCO legion season winds down this week.
The Wanderers are in the middle of the playoff hunt as they dive into five-straight games this week with the season needing to be completed by this Sunday and any chance of rainouts could put a damper on the Fourth of July weekend.
Sitting at 7-4-1 in the standings, the Wanderers were hovering near the fourth spot in the standings, which would be good enough to push to the top half of the bracket in next week's playoffs..
With the three division winners automatically qualifying for the postseason, Pulieri hopes his team can be apart of the mix of the five remaining teams with the best records to get a chance to play for a trophy.
"We certainly have a shot, but we have to play well down the stretch," he said of his team's chances. "We got everyone back now and we should be able to make a run as long as our pitching holds up."
With convincing wins over Palmer and Easton last week, Pulieri's crew has improved their chances of qualifying for the postseason barring a meltdown this week.
With Hellertown (13-0-1) and the Birches (12-2) leading the South Division, the Wanderers will look to be the third team from the division to sneak into the postseason.
"I don't really think that playing five games in five days is going to affect us that much," Pulieri said of this week's schedule. "It helps with our continuity, but our pitching is what's going to be key. We're not the deepest staff, but we'll hold our own. We'll need that this week."
