Freemansburg Connie Mack team fighting on

Freemansburg Connie Mack manager Keith Buss could envision his current season before it actually did.

With a number of players from last year's squad advancing to the next level, Buss believed his squad would take some time to develop. Having three wins heading into this weeks' play, Buss has kept a realistic perspective of the situation.

Last season, Freemansburg finished with a 6-12 mark. Their overall team depth also has wallowed as they have suited anywhere from 14 to 18 players.

"Things could be better," he said. "Everything is not going well for us right now. Our kids have been working very hard, but we just have trouble competing. We had kids moving up and we had some kids who are with other teams in the organization. We seem to be at the bottom of some of these decisions. We lost a number of pitchers and middle infielders through the process.

"This has happened to us the past two years. We just have to try and battle through it."

Despite his team's woes, Buss has been pleased with the consistent efforts and contributions from Donovan Stewart, Juan Carrasquill, and Teddy Liadris.

"All of them have done a nice job for us," he said. "They all have hit the ball well and have been good position players for us."

Buss also has been pleased with his overall team morale as the squad has remained optimistic.

"They really have been positive through all of this," stated Buss. "They certainly haven't given up and they come to play every game. We have been blown out in some games, but we also have a number of games that have been decided by one run.

"They have really hustled and battled. The effort certainly has been there. I really can't expect much more from them. They do give it all they have. There are games when the other team has more talent than we have, but our kids keep coming."

In the final weeks of the regular season, Buss anticipates his club to earn more results.

"It would be nice to pick up a couple of more wins," said Buss. "We just have to keep working. It is a good bunch of kids with a strong work ethic that can be a better team next year."
