Zachary Shupe received his Eagle Scout award at his Court of Honor ceremony May 31 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Coplay.
He is the son of David and Deborah Shupe of Northampton.
Shupe began his Scouting career as a Tiger Cub in Cub Pack 79, Stiles. He then earned his Arrow of Light and Heavy Shoulder award. He later crossed into Troop 79 and became a member of the Order of the Arrow.
He joined Troop 59 in Egypt, where he held positions of den chief, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and Order of the Arrow representative.
Shupe was a member of the 2013 National Jamboree Troop B403 and held the position of assistant senior patrol leader. He was also a member of the 2014 National Youth Leadership Training staff at Camp Trexler.
For his Eagle Scout project, Shupe restored more than 400 feet of metal railings and handrails that surround the outside of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the old convent in Coplay. He is a member of St. Peter's and has been an altar server for the past eight years.
Shupe has just finished his junior year at Northampton Area High School, where he also attends Bethlehem Vocational-Technical School for welding technology. He also attends Northampton Community College for welding technology.
He works at the Army & Navy Store in Whitehall and has also been a snowboard instructor at Blue Mountain Resort.
He plans to pursue a career in welding.
