WESTERN SALISBURY Enjoy the theater this summer
I would like to tell you about something I used to do with my boys in the summer.
When they were little, to get them out of the house and expose them to something other than a TV or Game Boy, I would take them to local summer theatre. Muhlenberg College and DeSales University have wonderful shows. After the performance, the kids can stay and talk to the actors, get autographs and their picture taken. For the same price as a movie ticket, you get live action, colorful sets and beautiful costumes. You can't beat it.
This year Muhlenberg is performing "Grimm! Fantastic Fairytale Adventures." The show times are 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. Saturdays. The show runs through July 25. Visit www.muhlenberg.edu/summermusictheatre.
DeSales University hosts the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival every summer. The children's show this year is "Rapunzel." Show times are 10 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday and runs through Aug 1. For more information visit pashakespeare.org.
These programs also have great shows for adults. Check out the websites for some fun ideas for a date night or a girl's night. You won't be disappointed. Who knows, you could be watching a future Broadway star.
If you are more into movies than live theatre, the Emmaus Theatre is a great place to go for a reasonable price. This week they are showing "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Every Friday and Saturday night a midnight retro movie is featured. You can see "Matrix Revolutions" at midnight June 26 and 27. Watching a movie in that old-style theatre is such a unique experience and if you are really lucky, you'll get to hear a train go by in the middle of it.
Hopefully this gives you some summer entertainment ideas. Enjoy.
