Alan K. Greiss
Alan K. Greiss, 82, of Whitehall, formerly of Slatington, died peacefully June 9, 2015, in his home surrounded by family.
He and his wife Priscilla A. (Moore) Greiss were married 58 years last June 16.
Born June 5, 1933, in Hereford Township, Berks County, he was the son of the late LeRoy L. and Kathryn J. (Christman) Greiss.
A 1955 graduate of Penn State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in dairy science, he was a lifelong farmer in Washington Township, for 57 years before retiring in 2013.
He was also a loan officer at Mid-Atlantic Farm Credit Service, Agway and the State Hospital Farm System, Northampton County.
A member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, he served two terms on vonsistory.
An advocate for agriculture, he was a founding board member of Lehigh County's land preservation board, the Extension Board, the farm bureau, and Schnecksville Grange 1684.
His four past-time loves include the Philadelphia Phillies, Penn State football, John Deere tractors and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Karen D. Griffith and her husband, Mark of Allentown, Sharon E. Holko and her husband, Andrew, of Orefield, Deborah A. Geiger and her husband, Timothy, of Schnecksville, Keith A. Greiss and his wife, Sandra, of Carlisle; siblings Lois Graver of Schwenks-ville, Lana Kane of Conestoga, Arlo Greiss of Warrington; and grandchildren Lauren, Megan, Kristen, Sarah, Rebecca, Hannah, Lillie, Olivia, Jonas, Connor and Noah.
Twin great-granddaughters are expected later this month.
His funeral service will be 11 a.m. June 12, at Union UCC, 5550 Route 873, Neffs with the Rev. Kris P. Snyder-Samuelson officiating.
Family and friends may pay respects 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday in Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville and 10-11 a.m. Friday in the church narthex.
Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs.
