Rodney K. Schlauch Sr.

Rodney K. Schlauch Sr. 83, of Slatington, died May 31, 2015, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

He and his wife Diane B. (Green) Graver Schlauch were married 30 years on May 25.

He was previously the husband of the late Mary Lou (Urffer) Schlauch.

Born Sept. 18, 1931, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Rowland G. Sr. and Marion (Miller) Schlauch.

He served with the Pennsylvania National Guard for 18 years.

President of the former Germansville Feed and Farm Supply Inc., Germansville, for 25 years before retiring in 2011, he previously owned and operated the former Rod Schlauch Associates, and was employed by the former L.F. Grammes and Sons Inc., both in Allentown.

His passion in life was farming, having farmed with his brother, Rowland, for 45 years in Heidelberg Township.

He was a 1949 graduate of the former South Whitehall High School.

Active in the life of his church and community, he was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation of Heidelberg Union Church, Heidelberg Township, and a former member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, where he was past president of the consistory and served on the board of governors.

He was past president of the Lehigh County Farm Bureau, a former member of the Heidelberg Township Board of Supervisors, where he served as chairman, former chairman of the Heidelberg Township Planning Commission, member of the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission, served on the Board of Directors of the Wildlands Conservancy, was a member of the Rural Preservation Association of Northwestern Lehigh County, and a former member of the Upper Lehigh Lions Club.

In addition to his wife, Diane, he is survived by sons, Rodney K. Jr. and Lori and Frederick R. and Cindy, all of Germansville; grandchildren Katherine, Rebecca and Matthew; great-granddaughter, Adrianna; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Richard G. and Rowland G. Jr.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. June 5, at Heidelberg Union Church, 5187 Irvin Road, Slatington, with Pastor Karen A. Yonney officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church.

Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs.
