Police attempt traffic stop, high speed pursuit ensues

A 38-year-old Bally man was taken into custody after he allegedly led police in a pursuit just after 1 a.m. May 26 on I-78 East, Upper Macungie Township.

State Police Troop M Fogelsville allege David Marcus Adams was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze in the right lane at a high rate of speed.

Trooper Stephen M. DeAngeles alleges Adams' car was clocked at 115 mph in a posted 55 mph zone, when it passed him and Trooper Kevin C. Vanfleet on I-78 in the area of mile marker 50.9.

According to DeAngeles, the pursuit began after a traffic stop was attempted.

Adams allegedly accelerated the car, carelessly and recklessly changed lanes and weaved across the eastbound lanes of traffic.

The pursuit lasted 4.4 miles until Adams brought the car to a stop.

Adams allegedly failed to obey commands, resisted arrest and exhibited signs of intoxication.

He was transported to Lehigh County Prison, where a legal blood draw was conducted.

Adams was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police oficer, driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, driving at an unsafe speed, careless and reckless driving, and three other traffic violations.
