Liberty HS: Kaitlin Nguyen
Grade: 12
Family members: My family includes my parents, Minh and Lisa, my two sisters, Jenna and Erin, and my Pop-Pop, Lester.
Favorite subject: I enjoy English classes because they allow me to expand my methods of thinking and organize my ideas coherently on paper. I also like calculus because it is systematic and structured. My absolute favorite classes would be chemistry and anatomy. I am infinitely fascinated by the sciences.
Activities: I am head majorette and principal Highland dancer for the Liberty Grenadier Band. As a flautist, I am a member of the First Company and secretary of the orchestra. For the school newspaper, Liberty Life, I am a staff artist. This year I hold the title of senior captain of corporate fundraising for the BASD Mini-THON.
Next steps: I intend on majoring in either chemistry or biochemistry. Following college, I plan to attend medical school.
Career goals: I aspire to be a physician, currently with an interest in cardiology or cardiothoracic surgery.
Heroes: I think everyone who has been a part of my life could be considered a hero for me. They have shaped my life, teaching me about myself and how the world operates. Their contributions have saved me from denying my identity or making detrimental decisions in the future.
Hobbies: This is my 14th year of dance education, and I've taken lessons in tap, jazz, musical theater and ballet/pointe. I'm very passionate about art and music.
Volunteer/community work: As vice president of Liberty's chapter of the National Honor Society and a member of Key Club, I actively participate in community service. In addition, I volunteer to assist the Northeast MS majorettes whenever possible.
Likes: I like fueling my curiosity, concerts, discovering new things, sunshine, spending time with my friends, red roses, achieving my goals, and contagious optimism.
Dislikes: I am not a fan of mushrooms, and I strongly dislike seeing people upset.
Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment would have to be becoming head majorette this year. I began twirling in second grade with aspirations of one day holding this position. Ten years later, this dream and goal has been realized. There is no feeling parallel to marching out onto the field during a Friday night football game and hearing, "Please welcome head majorette, Kaitlin Nguyen, leading all 291 members of the Liberty HS Grenadier Band….."
Advice for peers: My advice would be to pursue what you are passionate about. Success, in my opinion, is the happiness you find by doing the things that you love.
