The Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners at its workshop Monday moved forward a proposed ordinance allowing Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. to accept a deed easement necessary to install a pedestrian crossing sign at St. John's United Church of Christ, 575 Grape St., Fullerton.
A flashing sign will likely be placed on the south side of Grape Street, which is heavily traveled. Church-goers must cross Grape Street to get from the parking lot to the church.
During discussions, church and township officials said the measure is important for safety.
The commissioners will vote on the legislation when they meet on Monday.
The commissioners will have the first reading on Monday regarding amending the township's home rule charter over the method of appointing a commissioner when a vacancy occurs on the board.
No vote will be taken. The proposed ordinance requires two readings, the second of which is expected at the July meeting.
In another matter, Hozza reported that temporary repairs have been made to Parkview Pool, Hokendauqua. The remaining work will be completed after the pool closes for the season.
The township's three pools will open Saturday, June 20 at noon.
Unlike some board sessions that are lengthy and at times heated, this workshop concluded in just under 10 minutes. Commissioners President Linda Snyder asked whether any commissioner had anything to be brought up, and there was only silence.
The commissioners then went into the adjoining conference room for an executive session, reportedly on legal matters. Snyder said the board would not return to resume the workshop.
