LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

It's finally here....the end of the school year. Children are excited and parents may or may not be.

Since we had several snow days to make up, all Salisbury Township schools will now be in session for full days June 4 through 9. The schools will dismiss early June 10 and 11.

On June 10, the middle and high school will dismiss 12:15 p.m. and 10:30 a.m. June 11. The elementary schools will dismiss 1 p.m. June 10 and 11:15 a.m. June 11.

The Harry S Truman Elementary School PTO will host the annual ice cream festival noon to 4 p.m. June 6. Information has been sent home regarding advance sales for bracelets, tickets and raffle items. This is always a fun event for families to celebrate the end of the school year.

There is a school board meeting 7:30 p.m. June 17 in the administration building, 1140 Salisbury Road. A curriculum committee meeting will be held immediately before the regular meeting 7 p.m.

The Franko Farm yard waste drop-off will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 9 and 13.

The summer playground program begins June 17 and continues July 24. The hours and locations are the same as last year; 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evenings. The park program will be held in Green Acres Park, Lindberg Park, Devonshire Park and Laubach Park.

On March 18, the Salisbury Township School Board approved the adoption of full-day kindergarten program beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.

Guided by the school district's long-range strategic plan and the goal to provide the most effective support for student academic achievement, the decision to adopt full-day kindergarten comes after studying the issues from a number of different perspectives – curriculum, financial sustainability and facilities.

If you have children of kindergarten age and have not yet registered for 2015-2016, contact your school: Harry S Truman Elementary School, 610-791-2800 or Western Salisbury Elementary School, 610-797-1688.

Salisbury Township is running a bus trip to New York City Sept. 19. The ticket includes entrance to the 9/11 Memorial and Memorial Museum, followed by a visit to Bryant Park for lunch and shopping on your own.

The non-refundable cost is payable by cash, check or money order and payment is due at the time of registration.

The registration deadline is Aug. 10 at the Salisbury Township Municipal Building. Contact contact Salisbury Township at 610-797-4000 for more information.
