Bacher takes 10th in state 1600

Five Emmaus athletes competed in the PIAA Track and Field Championships, held last Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University's Seth Grove Stadium.

Hornet distance runner Katie Bacher was the only one to finish in the top 10, taking 10th place in the 1600-mter run.

Bacher, a junior who was the East Penn Conference Cross Country MVP last fall, went to states with a seed time of 5:07.74 from districts. She ran a 5:06.02 for sixth place in her heat and 11th-best overall out of both preliminary heats, which were run on Friday.

She returned to post a 5:05.79 in the final to earn 10th place.

Katie Lynch came into the state pole vault competetion as the 13th seed after clearing 11 feet at districts. She repeated that feat at states for 13th place.

Rounding out Emmaus girls contingent was Ashley Petre, who was seeded 22nd in discus after throwing 101-11 at districts. Her best throw at states went 107 feet, 7 inches for 18th place.

Ryan Paradise and Greg Jaindl represented the Emmaus boys team at states.

Paradise was teh 21st seed in the 1600 with a district time of 4:26.62. He ran 4:25.57 in his preliminary for 16th place, four spots from reaching the finals.

Jaindl was the 24th seed in the 800-meter run at 2:00.78. He ran a 2:02.01 in his heat for 24th place overall.
