U. Macungie man killed in crash

A 68-year-old Upper Macungie Township man was killed when his car went underneath a tractor-trailer 12:41 p.m. on May 15 at the intersection of Schantz Road and Industrial Boulevard, Upper Macungie.

Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said Ned Moyer of 30 Charles Drive was pronounced dead at 3:58 p.m. the same day at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

Moyer's cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma due to the motor vehicle and tractor trailer accident, Grim said.

He ruled Moyer's death an accident.

According to Upper Macungie Township police, Moyer was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Impala when it went underneath a 2015 Freightliner tractor and 2001 Great Dane trailer driven by Juan B. Rodriguez, 44, of Union City, N.J.

Police say Moyer was extricated from his car by firefighters and transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to the hospital where he died.

The car sustained severe damage to the hood and roof.

There was moderate damage to the underside of the trailer, police say.

Upper Macungie, Good Will, Trexlertown and Alburtis fire departments, along with Fogelsville fire police, assisted at the scene.

Upper Macungie police are asking anyone who witnessed this crash to contact Officer Robert Djevharian at 484-661-5911, ext. 351.
