St. paul's wins lv championship
In the 60th Lehigh Valley Championship Series between the City League and the Suburban League, St. Paul's of the Suburban League beat Holy Trinity of the City League 3-1 for their seventh Lehigh Valley Championship.
In game one, it was Holy Trinity scoring a run in the first and three more in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. In the fourth inning, St. Paul's went wild scoring eight runs, highlighted by Deb Hughes' two-run home, to take an 8-4 lead. They added three more runs in the fifth making it 11-4. Both teams scored a run in the eighth to make the final score 12-5 in favor of St. Paul's.
In game two, St. Paul's struck first with a run in the first before both teams scored a run in the second inning and two runs in the fourth to make the score 4-3 for St. Paul's. Holy Trinity scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to go ahead 5-4, but St. Paul's tied it up with a run in the seventh to make it 5-5. In the eighth inning, it was Holy Trinity scoring five runs to take a 10-5 lead and they held on to win the game.
But in game three it was all St. Paul's as they scored a run in the second, three in the third, two more in the eighth inning, and then added five runs in the ninth to coast to an 11-1 win and go up 2-1 in the series.
St. Paul's opened the scoring in game four with a run in the fifth and never looked back, scoring another run in the sixth before adding four more runs in the ninth to beat Holy Trinity 6-0 and clinch the championship.
Leading hitters for St. Paul's included Dave Clark 9-for-18, Rich Kern 9-for-19, Bret Remel 8-for-19, Jennifer Erkinger 7-for-18, Kevin Gross 7-for-19, Paul Slimmon 6-for-16, Brian Gross 6-for-18, Jason Gross 6-for-19, and Deb Hughes 4-for-12, including that two-run homer.
Leading hitters for Holy Trinity were Barry Coles 7-for-18, Dave Repnyek 6-for-15, Kevin Ashner 6-for-17, Jeff Cole 6-for-18, Bill Repnyek 5-for-17 and Garry Mosser 5-for-18.
