BC girls earn 5 silvers

Bethlehem Catholic High School's girls track and field team garnered five silver medals and two bronze medals at the District XI Class AA Track and Field Championships last week at Whitehall High School.

The Hawks took second place in the 4x1 relay with a time of 51.00, the 4x4 relay with a time of 4:07.82, and the 4x8 relay with a time of 10:14.43.

Dana Neupauer, Nicole Lacherza, Katie Altpeter, and Ally Hontz ran the 4x1.

Neupauer said, "We were so nervous. Our coach told us Palisades was the team to beat, but as long as we'd get second, we'd get to states, so just run as hard as you can."

Palisades placed first, ahead by only .15 seconds.

"When Ally got the baton, the Palisades girl was a little in front of her," said Neupauer.

Running the 4x4 were Jordan Young, Neupauer, Hannah Tanczos, and Lacherza, and the 4x8 was run by Kassi Yocco, Rowan Pepe, Samantha Kaeser, and Lauren Bunke.

Yocco also placed second in the 3200 run in 12:01.63, and Young was second in the 100 hurdles in 16.19.

Winning bronze medals were Bunke in the 1600 run in 5:28.49, and Mikayla Roach in the long jump with a distance of 16-01.50.

Also medaling for the Hawks taking fourth place were Rachel Tanczos in the long jump with a distance of 16-01.25, Tessa Zamolyi in the javelin with a distance of 111-03.00, Young in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.60, Yocco in the 1600 run with a time of 5:33.38, and Pepe in the 3200 run with a time of 12:20.52.

All District XI Class AA Girls silver medalists will compete at the PIAA State Track and Field Championships on May 22-23 at Shippensburg State University.
