Aminu wins three golds

Liberty High School sprinter, Jaylyn Aminu, clinched three gold medals at the EPC/Colonial League Track and Field Championships last Wednesday at Whitehall High School.

The Hurricane sophomore took first place in the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash, and the 4x1 relay.

"Overall, I knew I was winning, but i still needed to run my hardest," Aminu said.

The 4x1 relay, consisting of Rachel Finn, Aminu, Kaylin West, and Grace Mittl, came in ahead of Bethlehem Catholic, who placed third.

Finn said, "At the Allen Invitational, we didn't do as well as we'd liked, so we were all really nervous because we know we're capable of doing well. We're so excited, just because it's a huge surprise."

Becahi's relay team was comprised of Dana Neupauer, Nicole Lacherza, Katie Altpeter, and Allie Hontz.

Lacherza said, "We're just really excited because going in, we didn't know what to expect."

Becahi also medaled in the 4x4 relay, placing third, and Tessa Zamolyi took third place in the javelin.

Hurricane sophomore, Jazmyn Aminu, won gold in the discus and silver in the shot put. Jackie Arthur took fourth in the shot put and second in the javelin. West placed third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Finn placed second in the pole vault, and Karli Collins was third.

Rashana Tomkins placed third in the 100 hurdles, and Olivia Sahaydak was third in the 1600 meter run. Raisa Kochmaruk placed third in the 3200 run, all for Liberty.

Freedom High School had two gold medal winners, Gia Erie in the shot put and Shaina Palmer in the 3200.

"I'm happy," Palmer said. "I was never able to quite clinch that gold. The race went out really slow, and I don't like going out front, but I decided if the pace was lagging, I would take over. In the middle of the sixth lap, I started to get some space."

Palmer also medaled in the 1600 meter run, placing fourth.
