Wallace J. Bieber

The Rev. Wallace J. Bieber, 89, a resident of Phoebe Home, Allentown, formerly of Whitehall, joined the church triumphant, April 26, 2015, while attending morning worship at Jordan United Church of Christ, South Whitehall.

He was the husband of Sylvia S. (Seese) Bieber who died last May 17.

Born July 11, 1925, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Henry S. and Helen (Flexer) Bieber.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He attended Muhlenberg College but graduated from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, in 1957 with a Master's of Divinity degree.

He was employed by the United States Bureau of Naturalization and Immigration Service for three years prior to becoming ordained.

After becoming ordained in 1957 from the Evangelical and Reformed Church, he was called to the Utica Charge, Frederick Md., until 1960.

He became the senior pastor of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Lebanon, where during his 34-year tenure, a new church was built.

From 2001-12, he was the associate pastor for visitation at Jordan UCC, where he was a faithful and beloved member.

He served as director of UCC Homes, Annville, Lebanon County, from 1984-93, Board of Trustees of Phoebe Home, Allentown, from 1981-93, served two consecutive sessions of the House of Delegates, Maryland, in the Old State House, Annapolis, Md., and was past president of the Lebanon Association of the Penn Central Conference of the United Church of Christ.

He was current vice president and board member of the Pennsylvania German Society.

His survivors include a brother Richard F. of Bethlehem; sister Ruth J. Cressman of Lower Macungie Township; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. May 2, at Jordan UCC, 1837 Church Road, South Whitehall, with the Rev. Dr. David Charles Smith officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 6-8 p.m. Friday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday in the church parlor.

Interment with military honors will follow the service at Jerusalem Cemetery of Western Salisbury, Allentown.
