SCHOOL NOTES

BASD: EPA Recognition

The U.S Environmental Protection Agency recognized the students, faculty, and administration for their commitment to reduce the impacts of climate change through academics, operations and public engagement on April 23 at Spring Garden Elementary School.

The district has integrated climate and sustainability into its curriculum and students' experiences; improved energy efficiency in its facilities, transportation, and construction; and actively involved administrators, faculty, students, staff, and the community in these efforts.

BASD: All city elemntary schools

The All City Elementary Band and Orchestra Concert will be held at 7:30 p.m.May 7 at Northeast Middle School, 1170 Fernwood St.

Freedom: April 30 fundraiser

The Freedom Forum and Emergency Kit Committee are hosting a fundraiser for classroom emergency kits from 5 to 9 p.m. April 30 at Love It: Frozen Yogurt, 3859 Nazareth Pike (former KMart shopping center).

ALS balloon chain, walk May 8

The Freedom Family will host a community ALS Walk-a-thon at 6:30 p.m. May 8 in front Freedom High School. THe rain date is May 11.

FHS students will sell balloon cards, which will represent a balloon, for two weeks prior to and at the event.

On May 8, weather permitting, there will be hot air balloon event in which donations may be made to send people up in a hot air balloon, sponsored by Has Anyone Seen My Balloon? Inc.

The walk will last until 8 p.m.when there will be a balloon chain launch. There will be raffles, dancing andmusic. FHS teacher Mr. Fierro, and the ALS community will be honored. All monies raised will go directly to Center for Neuroscience at St. Luke's to be used for the care and treatment of ALS patients.

Liberty: Board highlights

LHS teacher Terry Biedlman received a retirement plaque honoring him for his service to the school district.

LHS national honor society held its second blood drive of the year with about 70 successful donations.

LHS's chess team claimed the steel division championship title this month.

Senior Rebecca Manion placed third in the English Speaking Union's Shakespeare competition in Philadelphia.

Senior Abbey Lewis who will attend the regional poetry out loud.

LHS has three student art competition winners. Megan Siebert, Silver Key in the scholastic Art; and Kiera Ginthner and Rasia, honorable mention; will have their art work on display at the Allentown Art Museum.

Charter Arts: Concert set

The Charter Arts school will hold the young choreographers concert evening performances at 7 p.m. April 30 through May 2 and matinees 2 p.m. May 2 and 3 at the school's Black Box Theatre, 675 E. Broad St.

The performances are the final exam for the Charter Arts senior dance composition course. Each senior dance student creates original choreography, based on a theme of their choosing, for performance by a group of dancers from the freshman, sophomore and junior classes.
