LVCHSA NOTES: Performances, shows end the school year
As the school year comes to a close, the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts is hoping to "finish with a bang!" The school calendar is brimming with exciting events, which will certainly keep students busy and motivated until the very last day. Between the many exhibits and performances, it's almost hard to believe that the school year is nearing its end.
Recently, there have been some fun and interesting events. The school held its 2015 Prom at The Lodge at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie on April 11. Additionally, the Senior Art Exhibit was held at the Bethlehem House Gallery on Main Street in Bethlehem April 10. The spring musical, "Blood Brothers," was performed April 15 through 19 in the Lehigh Valley Charter High for the Arts' Black Box Theatre. The figure skating show, "As Time Goes By," was held at the Steel Ice Center in Bethlehem April 18. The Senior Vocal Showcase, titled "The Distance We Have Come," also recently occurred.
There are also a variety of upcoming events as well. For instance, the dance department is hosting a variety of events that are open to the public. The dance department will be holding its Young Choreographers in Concert (YCC) Performance from April 30 to May 3 at the Black Box Theatre. This performance features the choreography of senior dance majors, which is then performed by dance students from various grades. The "Dance Quilt" performance will be held May 15 and 16 at the Morris R. Williams Center for the Arts at Lafayette College.
The music department at Charter Arts is also holding many performances. The Piano Recital is May 5 in the Black Box Theatre. This performance will feature all of the piano majors playing a variety of solo repertoire. The Senior Instrumental Recital May 14 features the senior instrumental majors (excluding piano majors) performing their senior pieces, which range in genre and speak to each individual student's preferences and abilities as musicians. The Chamber Ensemble Concert is May 7. The annual Spring Concert Series, featuring vocalists and instrumentalists, will be held May 18 and 19 in Foy Hall at Moravian College in Bethlehem. Lastly, the Songwriters Café May 21 at Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem provides an outlet for the young songwriters from all majors within the school.
The Visual Art Department also has another event that is open to the public. The annual Artist Café May 21st in the Fowler Gallery at the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts displays the work of visual art majors from grades 9 through 11.
The Theatre Department will also offer a few final performances before the school year culminates. The Senior Theatre Showcase May 8 at the Black Box Theater features all of the senior theatre class in the strongest scenes and monologues from class. Lastly, the New Play Festival is May 20 in the Black Box Theater. The senior theatre majors each partnered with the directing and playwriting classes to develop new plays. Four of these plays were chosen by the senior theatre class to be fully produced and performed.
Lastly, there are a few final school wide events to keep in mind. Graduation is being held at Packer Memorial Chapel at Lehigh University June 11. The "Gala of Dreams" is taking place at the new school facility in South Bethlehem on June 6. The last day of final exams for students is June 9.
We hope that you can attend the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts' many events or exhibits in these upcoming final weeks.
