Anna Qui earns altruism award

Whitehall High School senior Anna Qui was selected to receive the Travelers Protective Association of America's Altruism Award for her dedication to volunteer organizations and for serving as a leader for her peers in her school community.

She received the award April 9 during a ceremony at the Northampton Memorial Community Center.

TPA Post L in the Lehigh Valley is a national nonprofit organization and the largest post of the Pennsylvania division. The altruism award is offered to a senior student who shows selfless concern for the well-being of others, and the staff members at Whitehall High School determined that Anna should receive this honor.

Anna is a member of the Science National Honor Society, the German Club, the Key Club, National Society of High School Scholars and Women's Club.

She is a Miller-Keystone blood drive Volunteer, a Whitehall Public Library volunteer and Teen Advisory Board member and a volunteer at the Da Vinci Science Center, educating others on the principles of science.

Anna has logged more than 200 hours of volunteer work in her four years at Whitehall High School.

Whitehall High School guidance counselor Patricia Lorenz spoke on Anna's behalf and awarded her the TPA award.

In addition, Judge Stephen Baratta of Northampton County was there to thank Anna for her efforts and achievements.
