Liberty sees 23 student-athletes sign to college

Liberty had 23 student-athletes make their college decisions public earlier this month and most of the group decided to stay local.

Tyler Seddon, however, may be the smartest one of the bunch choosing to study in Florida, as he'll attend the University of Tampa to play lacrosse and study pre-med.

Seddon has family in Florida and it was always his dream to live in the Sunshine State. After making a highlight reel from his lacrosse games, Seddon sent the information down South and the rest is history.

"After they saw my highlight film, they invited me for a tryout with the team and I guess they liked what they saw," said Seddon. "Ever since I was eight-years-old I wanted to go to Florida, so this is really like a dream come true."

Seven members of Liberty's football team signed last week, including Izaiah Avent, who will stay locally and play in the secondary at Lafayette.

With the Leopards being the first school to reach out to Avent during the recruiting process, he also had an idea that Lafayette was where he wanted to be.

"Every time I stepped on campus, I just had a great feeling about the school," said Avent, who had his pick of Patriot League and Ivy League schools to choose from. "They have some great guys on the team and a great coaching staff. I'm really looking forward to it."

Two wrestling teammates will head to Wilkes University, as Kyle Gildner and John Ritter will spend another four years together on the mats.

Gildner introduced Ritter to the prospects of wrestling at Wilkes and Ritter decided to team up with his friend at the school after thinking it through.

"They have really good academics there and a good program and after thinking about it, it just felt like the best fit," said Ritter. "It's also nice to go to college with someone you know and who's been a teammate of yours. I think that makes things easier."

The rest of the Hurricanes to sign the dotted line included Louis Csaszar (Villanova University, football); Cameron Brusko (University of New Hampshire, football); Elijah Hall (West Chester University, football); Darius Gomez (Delaware Valley College, football); Ray Pacheco (Delaware Valley College, football); Josiah Wright (Muhlenberg College, football);Chelsea DeFrancisco (DeSales University, field hockey); Tejya Johnson (Widener University, field hockey); Alex Fitch- Misericordia University, cross country); Lizzy Golden (Temple University, cheerleading);Payton Pinter (Kutztown University, cheerleading); Abby Tenaglia (Kutztown University, cheerleading); Kyle Gildner (Wilkes University, wrestling); Jacob Jones (Marywood University, baseball); Evan Smith (Shippensburg University, swimming); Ben Kraihanzel (Eastern University, baseball); Michael Mittl (Moravian College, baseball);Logan Steidinger (Albright University, baseball); Precious Torres (Marywood University, softball) and Kayla Wirthm.
