Hawks compete at districts

Bethlehem Catholic High School's singles tennis players, Niko Franekic, Ryan Schmidt, and Peter Demyan competed in the District XI Class AA Singles Tennis Tournament at Saucon Valley High School last week.

Franekic won his first match against Notre Dame East Stroudsburg's Brant Weirich 6-0, 6-3 before losing to Moravian Academy's Adam Kramer 6-0, 6-3.

Schmidt fell to the number one seed, Moravian Academy's Zach Shaff 6-1, 6-0.

Demyan defeated Jim Thorpe's Luke Eggert 6-0, 6-0 before losing to Pen Argyl's Pierce Blasi 6-4, 6-2.

Regarding the Pen Argyl match, Demyan said, "He was good at rallying, so the points took awhile. In the second set, I was getting tired and making mistakes. I was trying too hard. Balls were going out, or I was at the net, and he kept getting it by me."

Blasi is Pen Argyl's number one singles player, and Demyan is Becahi's number three singles player.

"I think I played pretty well, but I think I could have done better," said Demyan. "It was a new experience. It was pretty exciting and challenging too."

The District XI Class AA Doubles Tournament begins this week at Saucon Valley High School, and the district final is scheduled for May 4 at Lehigh University.
