BC tennis beats Easton
Bethlehem Catholic's Niko Franekic's three-set tennis victory against Easton's Leland Addison proved to be the deciding match in the Hawks' 4-3 team victory over the Red Rovers last Thursday.
Franekic actually lost the first set 4-6, before coming back in the next two, 6-4, 6-4.
"I started off well, really aggressive and higher energy than normal. I was really attacking him and didn't give him time to settle. There were points here and there that I gave away, but I wasn't discouraged because they were without errors," Franekic said.
In the second set, Franekic started mixing up more slices and came to the net more. As the games continued into the third set, Franekic also mixed up his serve from flat to spin.
"It took some getting used to, but I just wanted to win. [At the last point] I was obviously happy, but I was confident it would happen. I was breaking his serve a lot, and I was up pretty well in the game," said Franekic.
At number two singles, Becahi's Ryan Schmidt lost to Ryan Betts 7-5, 6-3, and at number three singles, Becahi's Peter Demyan defeated Sergio Montes 6-0, 6-0.
Becahi's Grant Hicks and Ryan Zeiner lost at number one doubles to Cameron Schnable and Zach Rosa 8-3.
At number two doubles, Becahi's John Corley and Luke Mesko defeated Konstantinos Kariofillis and Daniel Pasch 6-1, 6-0, and at number three doubles, Becahi's Henry Gao and David Napierkowski defeated Anton DeLeon and Jake Martino 6-0, 6-2.
Easton won at number four doubles where Jacob DeHaas and Kori Kinney defeated Becahi's Jack Jiang and Hesshanth Jeyaranghan 6-2, 6-4.
The Hawks ended the season with a record of 12-4 and will graduate four seniors, Franekic, Schmidt, Demyan, and Mesko, who have set a high mark in sportsmanship and team loyalty, according to Becahi coach George Harmanos.
