Parkland softball team stays unbeaten at 13-0
Sophomore pitcher Aubree Fritzinger has led Parkland (13-0, 10-0) to an unbeaten record so far in her first year as a starting pitcher. Last Tuesday night, she made her mark on the program by throwing a complete game no-hitter in a 5-0 win against Whitehall in front of the home crowd.
"This is big for her confidence," said head coach Barry Search. "She's a competitor and an athlete, and is just doing a great job for us."
She struck out five batters and walked two, with an error credited to the defense behind her.
Fritzinger did her part on the mound, and she was helped by her teammates at the plate. The Trojans only had six hits on the night, but they were pivotal in scoring runs.
Abby Fritzinger hit a double with one-out in the bottom of the first, and that was followed up by a base hit from Emma Varrato. Madison Marshall then brought home Fritzinger to give Parkland its first lead of the game.
Parkland did the most damage in the second inning. Chelsea Morgan led off the inning with a single. Sidney Stibitz and Kyliegh Staudt walked with one out, and Taylor Knappenberger ripped a double to left-center field to clear the bases and give the Trojans a 4-0 advantage.
"She's been coming through with some big hits for us lately at pivotal times, and that really propels us," said Search of Knappenberger. "It's nice to see because she isn't a big kid, but she really swings the bat well."
Pickar added an RBI hit in the bottom of the fifth that scored Marshall and gave Parkland its biggest lead of the game.
The Trojans began a packed week of games on the right foot. Search said his unbeaten team will "take it one game at a time." Parkland had a tough matchup with rival Emmaus Wednesday (after Press deadline), followed by Northampton Thursday and a trip to North Penn tomorrow.
"I think defensively we've been playing well," Search said. "That's a tribute to my assistant coaches who work with these kids every day to get them better."
