To the Editor:
This is in reference to the recent discussions about the county seal and the Christian cross. At their core, all governments, state or local, are coercive monopolies. By their nature, they use force to command compliance with their code of laws.
On the other hand, at its core, Christianity is a moral code that advocates love and non-violence. Voluntary participation is inherent in its teachings.
Therefore, if the cross is the symbol of Christianity, is it morally defensible to have it associated with a representative of force?
Is it right for Christians, supposedly agents of peace, love and voluntary participation, to use a symbol of force, the county seal, to promote and defend their faith?
