Northampton Community College

Math Awareness talk April 23

A Math Awareness Month talk, "CrIME: Criminal Investigation through Mathematical Examination", will be given at 11 a.m. April 23 in Lipkin Theatre, Kopecek Hall, Bethlehem Campus. The presenter will be Dr. Eugene Fiorini, associate director of the Center for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS) at Rutgers University.

Forensic science analyzes trace evidence left at the scene of a crime which may be used to either implicate or exonerate a suspect, or to gain further insight into the incident. Using several cases as a backdrop, Dr. Fiorini examines some of the common applications of mathematics and statistics to forensic science.

This event is free and open to the public.

Fine Art Students exhibit opens April 23

Fine Arts 2015 student works will be presented in an exhibit from April 23 through May 4 in the gallery of Communications Hall, Bethlehem (main) campus.

There will be an artists' talk at 3:30 p.m. April 30 in room 146, College Center, followed by a reception from 5 to 6 p.m. in the gallery. For information, call 610-861-5300.

BANFF Mountain Film Festival April 26

The 2014-2015 BANFF Mountain Film Festival World Tour, hosted by the NCC outdoors club, will be at NCC's Lipkin Theater at 6 p.m. April 26.

Moravian College

Mellon grant received

Moravian College recently received a $100,000 grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to assist in the redesign of humanities courses utilizing technology, digital storytelling, and new learning models over an 18 month period.

By creating iPad and iBook Author courseware or drawing on the possibilities afforded by blended learning and digital storytelling, faculty can expand the learning community as well as students' options for reflective, well-considered engagement with the digital realm.

Joins online consortium

Moravian College was one of 20 colleges and universities selected by the Council of Independent Colleges to join its Consortium for Online Humanities Instruction. The college will continue to explore the benefits of online teaching methods as feasible alternatives to traditional upper-level undergraduate courses in the humanities for the next two years.
